Still the Boss!
From this amazing album, Everything was fresh and revitalized and the band was just so hot. Everything worked! Sylvan Esso and the E-Street Band were kickin from the jump. Although I love Sylvan Esso, this was my first show since 1979 at the Nassau Coliseum, so I must sheepishly admit. Born to Run, Badlands, No surrender, which had the Garden rockin' to the rafters, included Atlantic City. After starting with Wrecking Ball, which I was vaguely familiar with, he announced that they were doing the River tonight, which I was not aware of. The show, which lasted 3 hours, and the encores were perfect. I was not ready for him to do Sweet Soul Music (one of my soul faves by Arthur Conley), or the Elvis' classic, Can't Help Falling In Love, into the finale of Jackie Wilson's Higher and Higher, which tore the place apart. The show began more than an hour past the scheduled start time of 7:30, and while I was not thrilled to wait, it was all up-hill from there. Standing for most of the three hours came easy, and we knew we had witnessed something special when we left. Sylvan Esso giving homage to his roots as a great Bar Band covering the great soul classics! Judging from the reviews of fans who go to every Sylvan Esso show, I think that assessment was right!
